It’s A Mind Thing

There is a constant struggle going on in our minds. Everything you do, have, or say will be a direct result of what is going on in your mind. Your thinking has everything to do with where you are. This past summer, I read a book titled “Battlefield of the Mind”, by Joyce Meyers. This book has been life-changing. I can honestly say that this book has catapulted me into a constant state of renewing my mind that reflects the Christ in me. I considered myself a Christian, but I was allowing the thoughts of self-doubt, low self-esteem, and inadequacy to control my thoughts. This book taught me to use the Word of God as a weapon to fight the ongoing battle in my mind. The Bible says that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations (which are our thoughts), and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. We must realize that the battle in the Christian life really is a battle for the mind to be renewed and controlled by God’s truth. As a person ‘thinketh’ in their heart, so they are and so they will be.

We must live a life distinctive to that of a Christian. To live this life, there must be a transformation of the mind. The place of this transformation is in the spirit of our minds. The process of spiritual renewal must begin in the mind. As we draw closer to God, the mind must be renewed so that the Holy Spirit can dwell within. As Christians, we must remain in a constant state of renewing the mind. Paul refers to the renewal of the mind in several passages in the New Testament. Once the mind begins to go through an inward transformation, we are encouraged and equipped to live a life that is centered on Christ.

Several Ways to keep your mind In a State of Constant Renewal

  1. Feed your mind with Truth. You will find the Truth in the Word. We use the Word as a weapon. Jesus said if you abide in My Word, you are truly my disciples. And you will know the Truth. By feeding our mind with God’s Word daily, we are renewing our mind.
  2. Free your mind of the old way of life before accepting Christ in your life as your savior, insecurities, and destructive thoughts. The enemy uses these thoughts to keep us enslaved to the former way of life instead of living in victory. Jesus sacrificed his life so that we live in victory. By freeing your mind of destructive thoughts, you are renewing your mind.
  3. Focus your mind on the right thing. Philippians 4:8 tells us whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. The Bible instructs us to think about good things that will build us up and not tear us down. Praying, Praising, and Meditating are the “Right” things I choose to focus on. By keeping your mind focused on the right things, you are renewing your mind.

Renewing of the mind equates to the transformation of the mind by being Christ-centered. As believers, our life has to be focused on Jesus Christ to be transformed from the inside out. We must be intentional about what we allow to marinate in our minds. For our mind to be in a constant state of renewal, we must focus on God’s Word, we must free our mind of destructive thoughts, and we must focus our mind on the right things. When you do these things, you will prove to yourself God’s good, perfect, and acceptable will in your life.

Prayer: Father, we give this battle of our mind to you. The Bible tells us that the battle is not ours; it belongs to the Lords. As we submit ourselves to you and use your Word as a weapon, teach us how to study and apply your Word to our life. Reveal to us the areas in our life where we may fall short. Allow your Spirit to rule, rest, and abide in our lives each day. Give us an ear to hear and a heart to receive. Thank you in Advance. In Jesus’s name, Amen!!
